The Boarding House is set within the Grade II Listed Main Building and was shortlisted for the Boarding Refurbishment and Extension Award 2019, as part of the British Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) annual awards.
The aim of the project was to remodel and refurbish the house to be more reflective of a family home, where pupils spend their day on the lower floor of the house – in the living areas, kitchen space, individual and shared studies. In the evenings, the boarders will then come together as a wider community across three houses on the upper floors.
Headteacher, Mark Turnbull said “we wanted to create a house environment that would make a tangible difference to the lives of our students and staff. Our challenge has been to ‘future proof’ our provision to meet the changing needs of families and the expectation of our pupils. Our buildings allowed us to be more creative and better organise our accommodation in a way that maintains the integrity of house structures whilst allowing flexibility in how space is used to provide the best home from home experience for everyone from full boarders to flexi boarders and day pupils.”
