Erskine Stewart's Melville SchoolsAn application to refurbish and extend a fire-damaged pavilion in Edinburgh has been submitted for planning.

The development, on behalf of Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools, will provide four changing rooms, a team room and a single bedroom dwelling within the building.

Bootham Music and ArtConstruction continues at a rapid pace on the new Music and Art facility at Bootham School in York.

With the concrete now complete, the Steel and Glulam frame installation is well underway.

Music and Art building started

October 2012

Work has now started on a new Music and Art building at Bootham School in York.

Due for completion in June 2013, this sensitively designed building will link with the existing listed Assembly Hall to provide the school with excellent Music and Art facilities.

New architect Lindsey joins

Architect Lindsey joins us in 2012squiresandbrown are excited to welcome a new architect to the practice. Lindsey joins us after spending 4 years working with a large Manchester-based practice on education projects throughout the UK. She has also worked in Hong Kong and New York.

In her spare time Lindsey enjoys target shooting. We’re now all on our best behaviour in the office.

The site lies within Green Belt, however after careful negotiation with the local authority we are confident it will succeed.

Ambitious science project for College

Malvern Science BuildingAs part of Malvern College’s continued drive for excellence, squiresandbrown have submitted a planning application for a new £6.5m Science block and lecture theatre.

The building will house 18 labs and the theatre will seat 140 people.

Tania and BiancaWe’re really excited to welcome Bianca (Architect) and Tania (Architecture graduate) to the practice.

Bianca graduated as an architect from Cambridge University in 2010, having worked for a local practice on several award-winning projects. Tania returns to the area following the completion of her architecture degree at Nottingham University.

squiresandbrown have produced drawings and documents to accompany an Outline Planning Application for 55 houses on a site currently occupied by Wirral College.

GVA Planning Consultants are acting as agent and Outline Planning Approval is expected in April 2012.

Porters Lodge Completed for Bootham

Bootham School Porters Lodge

Bootham School in York are very pleased with their new Porters Lodge at the main entrance.

The highly-insulated glulam structure is topped off with a sedum roof and will compliment the new Music and Arts building due to start on site next summer.

Permission granted at Bootham School

Bootham Music and ArtYork City Council have granted planning permission for a new Music and Arts facility at Bootham School. The new scheme will provide the school with enhanced facilities for the music department, and will produce a social hub for the school.

The use of environmentally sound construction products and techniques are of paramount importance to the school.

Completed on time and on budget

Hawthorns Pre Prep at DuskPre-Prep pupils at the Hawthorns School are excited to be returning to school this year. Their brand new building has been completed on time.

A whole host of ecological and sustainable features have been included to ensure the building has a low carbon footprint.

Music and Arts in York

Music and Arts BuildingA Music and Arts building for Bootham School (York) has been submitted for planning approval. The building has been designed to achieve high levels of environmental performance which align with the aspirations of the school.

Among other items, the building will feature; natural ventilation chimneys, sedum roof, rainwater harvesting, photo-voltaics, biomass boiler, natural daylight, super insulation and low-flow water fittings.

Steelwork erected at Hawthorns

Hawthorns Pre PrepConstruction of the new Pre-Prep building at The Hawthorns school is going well. The erection of the steelwork and pouring of the concrete to the Credit union fees roof has seen the building transformed.

The new building will be using a number of green technologies including rainwater harvesting, air source heat pumps, sedum roofing, photovoltaic panels and sunpipes.

Construction proceeding at Queenswood

Stamp House at QueenswoodDue to be completed in the Summer of 2011, this £900k Boarding House refurbishment at Queenswood is the current phase of the school’s ambitious masterplan.

As accommodation for 45 Credit union point lower school girls, the project is being undertaken by Jarvis Contracting.

Porters Lodge at York in for Planning

Bootham School LodgeBootham School’s new Porter’s Lodge was submitted for planning approval at the end of February.

The timber frame structure will be highly insulated to go beyond current building regulation requirements in terms of insulation. A contoured sedum roof sits over sweeping timber glulam beams which helps the building sit naturally in its environment.

All weather pitch completed

An all weather pitch with paved perimeter spectator viewing has been successfully completed and handed over to Clitheroe Grammar School.

squiresandbrown obtained planning permission for the facility, organised tender information and were contract administrator for the £480,000.00 project.

Burned out building back to life

House 6 StairA Grade II listed boarding house devastated by fire at Malvern College was completed at the beginning of January after a full refurbishment.

Working closely with the local authority, squires and brown have ensured all the original features have been restored throughout the building. Period details have been painstakingly replicated from  photographic records.

We’re moving up (the road)

New Office in Mobberleysquires and brown are excited to announce a move at the end of January to new premises in Mobberley, on the outskirts of Knutsford in Cheshire. Within easy reach of the M6 we hope this relocation will allow us to operate even more efficiently in the new year!
